A chinese smartphone brand who eventually made it to the third place just after Samsung and Apple in the smartphone market, Huawei has given some best phones in past few years. The honor 6x is the no exception I would say. I’ve been a huawei fan as I’ve been using their midrange phones huawei g play mini and honor holly. They didn’t disappoint me either. However as time passed the spec sheet of those phones started falling short for me. So then with a decent budget in my mind I decided to go for their newer model which they like to call it “The Swag Phone”. So here goes my review of the Huawei Honor 6x.
Let’s briefly talk about the specifications first..
Huawei’s Honor 6x primarily comes in two variant – one with 3GB RAM and 32 GB storage and other one with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It runs on Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 655 octa-core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz. It features a 5.5 inch full HD display which is an IPS panel. The build quality of the phone is metal with plastic in top and bottom with chamfered edges. It comes with 8 megapixel front facing camera which is capable of shooting 1080p videos. The primary camera of this phone is the highlight as it consist of dual camera system which is often found in flagships. The primary sensor is of 12 MP which is backed with 2MP sensor. The battery of the phone is relatively large holding 3340 mAh. It comes with hybrid dual SIM support in which one slot only supports 2G. Above all it consist a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top and micro USB port in the bottom. It comes with Android 6.0 out of the box but is upgradable to nougat. Also it has a fingerprint sensor below the camera which is blazing fast.
My take on the Huawei’s Honor 6x –
I’ve had this phone for about a month and in one point I love this. Even though this is not a perfect phone but fits my needs perfectly. The 5.5 inch display with full HD resolution is quite decent and is good for watching videos and playing games. The display gets a decent brightness and readability under the sunlight. Initially the phone was released with Android Marshmallow. But now it is upgradable to nougat and also firmware is upgradable to EMUI 5.0 which is more user friendly. RAM management is also very good and if you are a normal user it will be more than enough. The camera is also decent and gives you extra space with it’s secondary camera that let’s you have bokeh effect in your images.
There are few things that I didn’t like about the not so SWAG phone:
Honor 6x is metallic build which is a plus point but the build quality isn’t sturdy enough. It also fails in Zack’s Durability test. Another thing that annoyed me was it’s glass as it didn’t contain oleophobic coating. Also the display is a 2.5D curved glass which makes it impossible to find a perfect tempered glass for it. All the tempered glass leave air spaces along the edges of the screen which is annoying to see. Above all I would say that the speakers of this phone is below average.
FINAL VERDICT –
Overall Honor 6x is a good value for money. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4 was also a choice of mine but camera was a deal breaker for me. The camera of Honor 6x cannot give flagship results but it is still best one in it’s price segment. The software has improved a lot and when used Nova launcher it just looks amazing. The Honor 6x retails around the average price of $250 (NRs. 28000 approx.) and is a good buy if you are looking for a good smartphone without breaking your budget that too with a dual camera setup. Just buy a good case and a tempered glass for it and you’ll be good to go.
